Last night of “Celebration of Light” deemed a success by both spectators and police

Vietnam had tradition…

Brazil had carnival…

Italy brought the party last night — to wrap up the 2012 “Celebration of Light.”

It was promised right from the start…

“Ladies and gentlemen… are you ready to party?”

And it didn’t disappoint…

A pulsing mix of dance, pop — with a few more reflective moments as well.

And by the reaction — it worked with the crowd…

“You could feel the whole thing in your body, there was just so much of it… it was cool!”

“I’ve been just about for every one in the past 22 years, this is brilliant.”

Rave reviews for the last of this year’s performances.

The winner, either Vietnam, Brazil, or Italy — will be announced Monday.

Meanwhile, Vancouver Police are reporting the usual flurry of alcohol pour-outs and arrests for breach of the peace…

But otherwise, Constable Brian Montague calls the night a success.

“We did have a few weapons seizures, we don’t know why people bring these things down to these events, there’s no need for it… I don’t know what they’re thinking when they put a weapon in their pocket and come down to such a large crowd… we did make an arrest of I believe two individuals in possession of some pepper spray or bear spray.”

Montague is also crediting partnerships with transit police for an increased crack-down on alcohol seizures.
