Some good news from Tulameen, where fears of flooding have led to an evacuation alert for 272 homes.
Dale Kronebusch with the Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District says water levels dropped about 12-inches overnight.
However, the evacuation alert remains.
“We need the snowpack to be gone before we’re really safe and comfortable, but it definitely needs to probably drop at least another two feet just so they can start walking around without having to wear hip waders.”
Meantime, an evacuation order is still in place for 47 homes west of Chute Lake.
“Those are the ones that are north of Naramata, so they’re in by a community called Indian Rock. We have 18 people out in hotels in Penticton. The lake actually dropped about 4 inches overnight. We’re continuing with that drop and perhaps we can maybe speed it up, but in a controlled fashion.”
A decision on whether to extend or rescind the evacuation order could be made today.
