Lawyer pleads guilty to gang connections

A Vernon lawyer has pleaded guilty to associating with a gang.

In BC Supreme Court in Vancouver, William Mastop has admitted to participating in activities of a criminal organization.

He had been slated to go to trial by jury next month.

The lawyer was charged almost three years ago, and accused of associating with the Vernon-based gang known as the “Greeks.”

Last month, five Greeks members or associates were found guilty of murder or manslaughter in the deaths of two former drug runners and a dealer.

It was BC’s longest-running criminal jury trial, lasting nearly 18 months.

Mastop is set to appear next in court January 18th to fix a date for sentencing.
