Lengthy meeting over West End high rise

A City Council meeting over a proposed high rise in the West End is going late into the night.

Council will hear as many speakers on the list of 60 as they can, “I am speaking today in support of the current re-zoning application at 1401 Comox Street. I am here to support this project, there is a lot of pain, there is particularly a lot of pain about this site. Because of Saint John’s we need to mourn the loss of the facility and we need to move forward.”

Not everyone was happy with the 22 story building or the City’s so-called Green Plan, “But, you continue to approve projects that are so far more polluting to our city. Everything you are doing here is so ass-backwards to what your stated intent is.”

Council will go until 11 and then pick up again Tuesday.
