Environment Minister Terry Lake is applauding the federal government for streamlining environmental reviews of major projects.
Lake says BC has advocated a one project-one process review for some time.
“……We have a very rigorous and comprehensive environmental assessment here in British Columbia, we think it makes sense to reduce the overlap, the duplication and the time that it takes to conduct an environmental assessment so we’re happy, this is something that we’ve been working towards for a long time.”
BC NDP environment critic Rob Fleming is not opposed to time limits for environmental reviews, but he says Ottawa’s so-called “stream-lining” really amounts to gutting environmental standards, and the provincial government should take a stand.
