The Top Ten scams of 2012 as reported by Vancouver Police and the Better Business Bureau involve social media and internet fraud.
The bureau’s president and CEO for mainland BC says it’s easy for victims to fall prey to bogus advertising, sales and even love scams.
“Even if you encounter someone or something that seems genuine or professional, sometimes that package can just be too good to be true.”
Danielle Primrose says the internet is a key festering pool.
“Many, many opportunities for people to be taken advantage of unfortunately.”
Other longstanding scams include ponzi schemes and door-to-door fraudsters offering home improvements that aren’t needed.
