Lottery scam warning

Vancouver police have once again issued a warning about lottery scams targeting the elderly.

Detective Linda Grange says in one case, an elderly woman in Hillsboro, California was telephoned from Vancouver and told she’d won 7.5 million dollars in the Australian lottery.

All she had to do was pay a 70-thousand dollar processing fee.

“So we have charged with two counts of fraud in relation to a lottery scam, we have a 27-year-old Vancouver resident, Naseefa Rasa, and her husband, 30-year-old Sahim Rasa”.

The charges were laid after a search warrant was executed on “F and A accounting” in the 2600-block of Kingsway.

Thirty-year-old Richard Williams of Surrey is charged with fraud in a similar scam, targeting a 76-year-old man in Pennsylvania.
