The driver of a tow truck that killed a two year old girl in Vancouver nearly three years ago has been fined the maximum two thousand dollars for driving without due care and attention.
William Mah was originally charged with dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm, but the Crown agreed to drop those charges after viewing video evidence of a skateboarder who distracted Mah as he was turning right at a green light from Abbott Street onto Expo Boulevard.
Investigators also determined the truck was traveling at 12 kilometers per hour, so he was not speeding and he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The August 2009 collision killed toddler Aoi (ah-oy) Kazama and seriously injured her mother.
Mah has not been banned from driving by the judge, but h could still lose his license if the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles determines he is a risky driver.
Mah’s been given nine months to pay his fine.
