Man gets late night bus ban, jail time for threatening driver

TORONTO – There will be no more late night bus rides for a Toronto man after a driver was threatened with being shot.

The Toronto Transit Commission says a 30-year-old man was sentenced to five days in jail after pleading guilty to threatening a driver with bodily harm.

The TTC says Alistair Bandoo also received one year of probation, including a ban from riding between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., seven days a week.

The commission says the man was causing a disturbance and bothering customers on an Eglinton Avenue bus on Nov. 27.

When the driver told the man to stop or get off the bus, he put his hand in his coat, said he had a gun and threatened to shoot the driver.

Police were called and arrested Bandoo. He was charged with threatening bodily harm and sentenced Nov. 30.

The transit commission says an average of two employees are assaulted every day, ranging from punching, slapping and spitting, to threats of physical harm or death.
