Man seriously injured after falling 200 metres on North Shore mountain

The Team Leader of North Shore rescue says “Lady Luck” was on the side of an injured man and those who rescued him Sunday.

Tim Jones says a 40 year old man was descending Crown Mountain in the backcountry with three others about 2:00, when he slipped and fell about 200 metres, shattering his femur and lower leg.

A helicopter was launched and a team long-lined in just before the weather closed in.

“Fortunately the two-man team had built a snow platform really quickly and was able to get this injured person into this aerial extraction bag, the weather cleared for about ten minutes, only ten minutes and a helicopter was able to come back in and get one of the rescuers out with this critically injured person.”

Jones says it was lucky the man wasn’t more seriously hurt.

He was flown by air ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital.
