March against racism planned for Commercial Drive

A local group hopes hundreds of people will turn out for a march to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Sunday afternoon.

Organizer Harjap Grewal with No one is Illegal says the march, is in part about reclaiming a neighbourhood – after attacks allegedly by three men believed to be linked with the white supremacist group, Blood and Honour.

“Their trial hasn’t started yet but they will be going to court.  But you know, there was a Filipino man that was lit on fire basically while he was on Commercial Drive.”

Robertson de Chazal, Shawn MacDonald, and Allistair Miller are accused of hate-based attacks.

People will gather at 2 p.m. at 14th and Clark to march north along Commercial Drive.
