A city Councillor in Surrey says an “aggressive” approach has put a stop to illegal businesses, such as massage parlours.
Barinder Rasode says the city has shut down 18 parlours over the past 18 months and denied nine licences under its crime reduction strategy, “Because if you look at other municipalities, they’re still operating there and I think it’s because they haven’t been as aggressive as we have to say, ‘Listen, we’re shutting you down and you can come back and appeal or sue or whatever you want, because we’re just not going to tolerate this type of business.'”
The numbers come from an update from the city’s Community Safety Committee.
