Mayor says bike lane expansion not a done deal, yet

Vancouver’s Mayor is defending plans to expand the city’s network of bike lanes, but he insists consultations are ongoing.

“No decisions yet. We want to understand what kind of costs and what kind of next steps are even possible and feasible right now.”

Gregor Robertson is responding to critics of a proposal to boost access for cyclists and pedestrians on the Granville and Cambie Street bridges.

“That’s all part of this plan. Shaping how the city’s transportation network shifts over the next couple decades.”

REPORTER:”What about the consultation though? Because a lot of people that we’ve spoken to say that even with consultation, you’re not listening to them?”

“No. That’s ridiculous. we have had many months of consultation on the city’s 2040 transportation plan.”

Business leaders are worried about parking losses along south Granville if bike lanes are expanded.
