Mayor still waiting for final long term cost on RCMP raises

Mayors are still waiting for a final long term figure on the cost of sudden wage hikes handed to the Mounties by Ottawa.

Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore says four months after the surprise wage hikes and the wait continues.

“Well we only have what they gave to us for I think it is this year and next year and we just build a certain percentage into our five year budget but we don’t know what it is going to be beyond a couple years.”

 Moore says its frustrating.

“That is one of the challenges that we have had with the RCMP contract a lot of it being managed out of Ottawa and not even being managed by our local RCMP we were told we are getting new accountability and new engagement I guess we are yet to see that but we are hopeful.”

In April Mounties were given a 1.75% wage hike, upsetting many mayors.

But it has since been learned all but a quarter point of those raises were given to mayors in budget forecasts.
