Mayor supports regional policing

Vancouver’s Mayor is hoping the Provincial Government doesn’t wait too long to implement recommendations made by Missing Women Commissioner Wally Oppal, Province-wide.

Gregor Robertson says several lessons have been learned by local police since a serial killer preying on women in the city’s downtown eastside was finally caught, “It’s good to see some recognition that actions taken are making a difference and that they need to be adopted by more cities and police departments. There’s lots more room for improvement though and that needs to be an over-arching commitment by all of us and that means continuing to learn and take action on these recommendations.”

Robertson says the priority should be a regional police force. Something he’s been lobbying for since he took office in 2008.
