Mechanical failure might be to blame for fatal crash in West Van

One man is dead after a freak accident in West Vancouver.

Police say shortly before noon yesterday, two men were in a delivery truck — heading east on Water Lane — when the driver lost control and hit a fence, a piece of which impaled the truck’s passenger.

He was taken to Lions Gate Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver wasn’t injured.

Police say the cause of the accident is under investigation, but there are signs of mechanical failure.
