A memorial was held Saturday for Lenami Godinez-Avila, the 27-year-old woman who plunged to her death from a hang-glider flight in Harrison Mills last weekend.
Jason Warner, safety director of the Hang-gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada, says the tribute was organized by glider pilots.
About 30 pilots gathered at the site where Godinez-Avila died, and one by one, planted or left flowers behind.
“One of the pilots brought his saxophone and he played two songs, one of the eyewitnesses who was there from the beginning, he said some kind words, and then we had one other pilot give a prayer and read a verse from the bible,” Warner says.
He adds because Godinez-Avila took the time to participate in an activity the pilots love, they feel like she was one of them.
