Memorial to be held for marine search and rescue volunteers

A memorial will be held this weekend in Sechelt for two Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue volunteers who tragically died.

President Randy Strandt says he expects a big turnout on Sunday as Angie Nemeth and Beatrice Sorenson are remembered.

“Is it a public service so we expect to have members of the public there as well as we know confirmation from first responders across the province and country will be joining us there so police, fire, and ambulance and other marine search and rescue groups who will be in attendance there, we believe there will be a fly past from the Cormorant rescue helicopter.”

The two women were found dead under the hull of a zodiak when it capsized in the Skookumchuck Narrows two weeks ago.

Two others in the boat survived, and the Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
