Men convicted in Vancouver drug dealer’s hatchet murder

Two men have been convicted of murdering a Vancouver drug dealer with a hatchet.

Babak Najafi-Chaghabouri and Charles Anthony Leslie killed Ronak Wagad in February 2009.

Both men were charged with first-degree murder, but the judge found Leslie guilty of second-degree murder. They were also both convicted of kidnapping and unlawful confinement.

The 31-year-old victim was abducted from his downtown Vancouver home and driven out to Chilliwack where he escaped, but was re-captured and then murdered.

Najafi-Chaghabouri was convicted of first-degree murder because he wielded the axe that killed Wagad.

He will be sentenced June 1, while Leslie’s sentence hearing is slated to start July 5.
