Mop-up underway at flooded Vancouver highrise

People living in a downtown highrise are mopping up after a major flood last night.

Police say water pipes used for firefighting may have been deliberately opened sending water down from the 35th floor to the ground floor at “The Max”on 928 Beatty Street.

Resident Sic Kareem says his apartment was flooded.

“The floor in my apartment is flooded, so that has to be replaced and I guess a lot of structural damage in the building.”

Mehdi Moossai says his apartment wasn’t damaged, but the same can’t be said for the lobby.

“It was crazy! The lobby was filled with water and elevators were shut off. People were outside for a couple of hours–it was crazy.”

Residents are now being allowed back in the building.
A 32 year old man who lives in the building is now under arrest.
