Mother of murder victim breaks down at inquest

The mother of a man murdered by his cell-mate nearly two years ago at a medium security prison in Agassiz cried today as she heard testimony from a fellow in-mate.

Lela Phillips lost her 33 year old son Jeremy in November of 2010 when he was strangled by self-confessed serial killer Michael McGray at the Mountain Institution.

This morning, she heard Brian Murray say her son told him he wanted to be transferred out of the cell he’d been sharing with his killer.

Murray, who testified by teleconference, says he considered McGray fully capable of killing again and he never should have been transferred from a maximum security prison.

Yesterday, the jury of three men and two women heard the killer call himself a sociopath who can never be rehabilitated.
