Mountie charged in young driver’s death near Agassiz

A Mountie has been formally charged after his police car crashed into another vehicle last summer, killing its young driver.

Abbotsford police investigated the crash involving Const. Jordan Braid last July.

They believe Braid was responding to a domestic dispute call as he drove down Highway 7 near Bodnar Road.

The Mountie is accused of crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting a Ford Mustang, driven by 20-year-old Steven Genberg, who later died of his injuries. His passenger, 19-year-old Johnathan Dauphney, was also injured, but survived.

Braid faces dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

He remains on desk duty and faces a Code of Conduct review.

He is set to appear in court in Chilliwack on June 26.
