A Nanaimo murderer’s bid to get out of prison sooner has been rejected by BC’s highest court.
Kelvin Purdy stabbed his estranged wife Denise in December of 2003.
He was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 19 years.
Purdy challenged the sentence as unfit, saying the judge relied too heavily on his ‘poor prospects for rehabilitation.’
Three BC Court of Appeal judges have upheld the sentence saying a prisoner’s release from custody does not fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the parole board.
Four years ago, Purdy tried to have his conviction overturned, based on claims police didn’t adequately investigate his wife’s new boyfriend.
That appeal also failed.
