The NDP caucus chair is questioning the timing of a new government ad campaign.
Shane Simpson says the commercials come just weeks after the finance minister announced seemingly strict measures aimed at reducing spending.
“Months before an election… the government is prepared to spend without much care for whether it’s responsible spending or not… to try to buy themselves an election victory. That’s what we’re looking at here… it’s irresponsible.”
The commercials are linked to the government’s “jobs plan.”
But Simpson says several of the ads — are barely connected.
Deputy Premier Rich Coleman is defending the campaign — although he couldn’t say how much it cost taxpayers.
“I saw the package coming through and I thought it was very good. I think the most important piece of it is the ad campaign is important, but the connection to information and jobs and training that that leads into on the net as a result of the ads is very beneficial.”
Coleman calls the ads “educational.”
