NDP fires at Justice Minister over transfer of disgraced Mountie to B.C.

NDP justice critic Kathy Corrigan says the Liberal government should do more to protest the transfer of a disgraced RCMP officer to BC.

And Corrigan faults Justice Minister Shirley Bond for negotiating a new contract with the Mounties that does not include the power to reverse the decision.

“I think it’s completely untenable that we have no control, no ability to say no, no warning whatsoever when we have a  situation where we have somebody that has this poor of a track record, a horrendous track record in the workplace, coming to British Columbia. No warning and no input into that decision at all.”

Corrigan is also highly critical of the RCMP itself for transferring Staff Sgt. Don Ray to B.C. after he’d been found guilty of dishonourable conduct for sexual encounters with subordinates.
