NDP win in BC is their only victory out of 3 nation-wide

Environmental lawyer Murray Rankin was the victor in Monday’s Federal Byelection in Victoria.

The New Democrat says his win sends a message to Ottawa that Victorians want to help the homeless instead of building fighter jets, “And ‘no’ to tax cuts for the few at the expense of the many and ‘yes’ to a clean environment, including our ocean!”

Rankin also spoke passionately against the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline saying, “…it will be stopped.”

He beat Green Party challenger Donald Galloway by just three percentage points after a back-and-forth battle through the evening.

A surprise appearance by Federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair at the BC NDP victory party at the Empress Hotel.

Mulcair said Murray Rankin is joining a winning team, “We know what our vision is, we know that we’re the only team who can stand up to Stephen Harper and hope to replace the Conservatives in 2015.”

The final results show 39-thousand people voted in the byelection, for a turnout of 44 per-cent.
