New campaign aims to get more people tested for HIV

A new public health campaign in B.C. aims to start the beginning of the end of HIV.

Officials say about 3,500 people in the province have the disease and aren’t aware of it.

Dr. Julio Montaner, director of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS, says more people to have to get tested so they can get into treatment sooner.

Because, as the social media campaign says, is different now.

“We have, for the most part, transformed HIV infection and aids into a long-term chronic and manageable condition.”

Part of the campaign is a new screening test that can provide preliminary results in less than 60 seconds.
