New West cop put on administrative duties after alteraction during arrest

A veteran officer with the New Westminster police has been placed on administrative duties after an altercation during an arrest.

Police say they were called late last night to a disturbance call at an apartment in the 1000-block of 5th Avenue.

Officers dealt with the disturbance and left without taking any action, but were called back about an hour later, and arrested a 22-year-old woman.

That’s when the officer with 24 years on the force and others got into an altercation with her.

Though no complaint has been filed, the department says the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner is conducting an internal review, while Abbotsford police conduct an external probe.
