The Georgia Straight Newspaper has filed a Statement of Defence against the 2010 Winter Olympic Chief’s defamation lawsuit.
The Publisher of a September 2012 expose on John Furlong claims the former Olympic boss did not honestly recount his personal history and suffered no loss from allegations that he physically abused, bullied and racially taunted aboriginal students.
The Straight also claims Furlong damaged himself by self-publishing the substance of the story at a September news conference where he denied the charges.
The Statement of Defence filed in BC Supreme Court goes on to say the paper denies committing libel and what it published was fair comment.
