NIMBY syndrome hits Beach Avenue

A familiar theme playing out again at Vancouver City Hall as people lined up to express their displeasure with a development proposal.

48 speakers signed up to address Council over the idea of adding four more towers in the west end at Beach Avenue and Cardero.

Many who waited to speak worried that their voices will likely be ignored, “I am frustrated that the Council does not give very much respect to people who come out to speak about this. And I find there behaviour in there not very good. So pricy luxury townhouses along waterfront property that is being subsidized by the average taxpayer. Judging by how previous West End projects have been approved, I don’t have a lot of hope that my voice will be heard.”

The public hearing was adjourned at 11pm and will reconvene to hear more speakers on February 19th.
