No charges against Terrace RCMP officer

A Terrace RCMP officer accused of using excessive force against a first nations man last spring will not be prosecuted.

The Criminal Justice branch has determined no charges will be laid against the officer who arrested William Watts on May 15th,  after he called 9-1-1 to report an intoxicated family member was coming to his house.

Lawyers for the crown say there’s not enough evidence to back up claims the then-36-year old was repeatedly punched in the head, so a conviction would not be likely.

He also accused police of making racist comments during the arrest.
