No consultation with LPNs on Bill 18

The Secretary-Business Manager for the Hospital Employees’ Union says the Government has not consulted about a bill introduced in the Legislature Monday.

If the bill passed, it would mean Licensed Practical Nurses would no longer be represented by the Facilities Bargaining Assocation, but instead fall under the Nurses’ Bargaining Association.

The Hospital Employees’ Union has the most members of any union in the FBA.

Bonnie Pearson: “I think the question that needs to be asked of the Government is, what is the Public Policy Initiative that they are trying to achieve?  How does this meet any criteria around a more effective delivery of healthcare?”

Pearson says the legislation would also transfer community-based LPN’s out of the Community Bargaining Association.
