No flood threat yet but the weather could still play spoiler

River levels, especially on the Fraser, are within normal levels so far, but the weather could play spoiler..

Campbell says there is still lots of snow left to melt on mountain peaks at higher elevation.

“Particularily in the upper Fraser basin, the Nechako, the Skeena, the Peace, and the Columbia that is a concern given that we are not at the time where we would see the peak flows so there is still an opportunity to reach that peak level. The weather over the next few weeks really is key to see whether or not we are going to get past the main peak season for those rivers and we are still not at that stage yet.”

Campbell says sudden warming could bring it all down, never mind lots of rain..

  As for the Fraser…

“The Fraser at Hope today was I think about 63-hundred cubic metres a second for example last year we got up to ten or eleven thousand..ten thousand five hundred..or something like that for our peak levels so we are still well below what we saw last year we do anticipate in seeing is a general gradual rise through the Fraser and the tributaries through this week and into next week.”

He says so far there has only been about a week to ten days of good snow melt.
