BC’s Education Minister is brushing off claims he will just legislate an end to the teachers contract dispute come hell or high water.
George Abbott says the Province is not just going through the motions in the dispute and appointing a mediator with the hope of some progress, “We could have legislated but we didn’t. We continue to believe that Dr. Jago, having the sterling record that he had of leadership who could bring this dispute, bring some progress to this dispute after no progress for over a year.”
Abbott says the BC Teachers Federation, to date, has not shared the governments view a mediator might help reach a deal.
He says Ministry staff are not working on crafting any legislation to impose a contract on teachers.
