No progress between mayors and the province in Translink funding

Slow progress so far from Metro Vancouver mayors to agree with Translink and the province on how to fund transit expansion in the region.

Transportation minister Mary Polak has met with the mayors council for Translink for the first time since the mayors voted no on hiking property taxes to pay for plan.

She says the mayors haven’t yet come up with detailed analysis on the types of new ways to bring in funding.

Polak says they need to decide what their priorities are and make sure the public supports them before coming to her.

“They need to show the public that and they need to show me that they have the public support for new tools. They have existing tools if they wish to have new and different ones they need to be able to show me that they have the public support for that and I believe they can do that.”

Polak says it is up to the mayors if an agreement happens before the next provincial election.
