No progress in landslide search

It’s time to consider whether crews can safely look elsewhere for the two remaining victims of the mudslide in Johnsons Landing.

That’s according to BC’s Chief Coroner, in charge of the recovery effort in the tiny village near Kaslo where a landslide destroyed three homes last week.

Lisa Lapointe says crews have excavated the area around the victims’ home, but found nothing, “We will do an assessment of where we think we will be most likely to find them. And if we don’t, at some point, I think we all recognize that we can’t excavate the whole slide.”

Local Val Webber, his two grown daughters and a tourist were left unaccounted for.

Two bodies were recovered earlier this week; those of a man and a young woman, but no formal identification has been made.
