Norovirus outbreak at Royal Columbian Hospital prompts quarantine

A Norovirus outbreak has shut down two wards at Royal Columbian Hospital.

Twelve patients in General Medicine Geriatric wards were under quarantine or sent home to prevent the spread of the stomach virus.

Fraser Health Spokesperson Tasleem Juma says patients with flu like symptoms are asked to either stay home, or inform staff to prevent the outbreak from expanding.

“We recommend that you do let our registration nurse know that you are suffering from influenza or Norovirus, possibly, and this way we can keep you isolated from other patients that may be in the waiting room.”

The emergency room is still operational.
