North Shore Rescue expects to stay busy despite spring weather

It may be getting sunnier in Vancouver, but it’s still winter for North Shore Rescue.

Team leader Tim Jones says the avalanche hazard isn’t so much a worry this long weekend, as people getting lost or falling.

“we really want people to completely understand that this a winter operations rescue mode for North Shore rescue. It’s not going to change considerably for some period of time.”

Jones adds some ski resorts will start closing earlier.

That means the rescue teams could take longer to get to high points using their own snowmobiles.

He says the squad is even doing a training exercise next weekend for avalanche rescue, so people should still take caution in the backcountry.
