North Vancouver City pleads with Feds over Coast Guard

The City of North Vancouver has asked the Federal Government to reverse Coast Guard cuts.

Mayor Darrell Mussatto says Council unanimously passed a resolution asking the Feds to reverse course on the cuts.

Mussatto says the City is concerned about safety on the water but he isn’t worried about the downloading of cost, “I would have before, but we are doing a new deal with our fireboats so that the City of Vancouver will be doing that. So, that is less of a concern in terms of downloading costs but it is more of concern about safety for our citizens who are out using boats. It is not just expensive boats, it is the smaller boats people get and use. Small boats that could run into trouble. So we are worried about that.”

He says with a busy port, they rely on the Coast Guard.
