North Vancouver District to sign RCMP deal

Another hold out municipality is getting ready to sign the new RCMP deal before the deadline.
North Vancouver District Mayor Richard Walton says they still have some unanswered questions, but will sign the deal.

“We don’t sign then the Minister will be acting within her legal prerogative to assume policing responsibility for North Vancouver District and I am sure that there will be a cost and a lack of local input that will come with that and I don’t think at this point that is serving our citizens better so likely we have no option but to sign it but we certainly we will be continuing to look extensively at additional policing options.”

Walton says they will go ahead with a consulting contract to see if West Vancouver Police can patrol the entire North Shore.
He says the study will take several months and then the decision will be made on whether or not to opt out of the RCMP deal.
