Not enough evidence to lay charges in Kehoe death

A shocking development in the killing of 18-year old Jamie Kehoe.

The Criminal Justice Branch has announced no charges will be laid in connection to his death.

Kehoe’s throat was slashed after stepping in to break up a fight on a Surrey bus last October.

Crown spokesman Neil Mackenzie says eyewitness accounts conflict as to whether the suspect was acting in self-defence.

Kehoe’s friend had apparently been attacking the suspect with a baton, and Kehoe himself was caught in the cross-fire.

“In all the circumstances, although there’s evidence that leads to the inference of identifying the person responsible, there’s not clear evidence that he was not acting in self-defense at the time that Mr. Kehoe unfortunately suffered this injury.”

Mackenzie adds there was no substantial likelihood of any homicide-based conviction.

A vigil was held for Kehoe back in October shortly after his death.

His family called him a hero for breaking up the fight on the bus at his funeral.
