If you’re heading to the fireworks, take transit.
Translink spokesperson Drew Snider says the system is always busy and extra service is being added.
“Skytrain is going to be running rush-hour service levels right through, starting in mid-afternoon and also keeping up to their regular closing time, because we expect that people will generally have cleared out by midnight or one o’clock anyway.”
Road closures in the West End and Kitsilano start around 6:30 p.m.
Transit police remind the public open liquor is not allowed on buses.
“Officers will be strictly enforcing liquor laws, specifically drinking in public, illegal possession, and underage drinking,” says Chief Neil Dubord.
Marilyn Oberg with the BC Ambulance Service says mobile paramedics will ride among the crowd on bicycles.
“When we tell you to please keep an eye out or have a safety plan about your kids, we’re very serious about this. We meet people every year who miss that very thing. They spend the entire wonderful event in a panic looking for their children.”
The first entry in this year’s festival is Vietnam. The show gets started at 10 p.m.
