One last May Day hurrah

A dramatic end to a May Day protest along Commercial Drive.

It started with a bon fire at Commercial and Charles.

About 50 protesters, many in black, covering their faces blocked traffic. Shortly thereafter, the Vancouver Police Department Riot Squad turned up in full gear.

This man saw the whole thing happen, “They were obstructing the road, the cops asked them very nicely a few times to get off the street and they didn’t. But finally, they eventually got off the street. So, I think the cops did a great job. You probably won’t catch me saying that too often.”

The protest was labelled an unlawful assembly and protesters were given three minutes to clear the area and, ultimately, they did.

There were no arrests and no injuries reported.
