One Mayor is clearing the air when it comes to civic confusion over RCMP deal deadline.

The municipal observer to the RCMP contract talks is clearing up some of the confusion at the civic level as an end of March deadline to sign off on the deal approaches

Fassbender says the end of March deadline is only between the feds and the province.

He says after that the contract is then sent out to municipalities.

When asked what avenues Mayors have, when they are handed an already done deal, and happen to take issue with items in the contract, Fassbender said “Well there is not a mechanism to change. The contract will be what the contract is. However there is definite mechanisms to sit down with both levels of government, the province and the feds, as we start to manage the day to day relationship.”

He says when civic governments will have their turn to examine the deal and sign off on it then the details will also, finally, be made public.

Fassbender said “I would say within the next week to ten days all of the municipalities local governments will be getting it and then the public will be then getting the details of the agreement.”

Mayors, as of today, have yet to even see the RCMP contract document.
