A man who made headlines in the 2006 hit-and-run of a New Zealand doctor is once again behind bars.
Xiao (Sean) Zhang, 25 – who served five months for crashing into Dr. David Higgins in front of his daughter on Gravnille Street – was arrested Nov. 18 on 33 criminal charges.
The scam involved a man who allegedly dressed up as a courier and told his victims that their smartphones had been delivered in error, according to police.
Zhang holds top spot on B.C.’s top-10 wanted list of alleged car thieves. He appears in court Dec. 14 on 13 previous charges.
VPD spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton asked people who believe they may be victims of the phone scam to call 604-717-3912 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
