One of three remains for drug and weapons trial

When the re-trial of a notorious drug and weapons case gets underway later this year, only one of three originally charged will be in court.

Jonathan Bacon, Godwin Cheng and Bacon’s ex girlfriend Rayleene Burton were acquitted of numerous drug and weapons charges after a 2005 search of the home Bacon shared with Burton, and a vehicle.

The Supreme Court of Canada ended up ordering a new trial, but the oldest Bacon brother didn’t live to see it happen after being gunned down in Kelowna last August.

Now it appears Cheng will face the new trial alone, after the Federal Crown stayed charges against Burton in April.

The Crown isn’t giving a reason for the decision to stay the charges.

The trial was supposed to start next week, but has now been pushed to November.
