Owner of burned rooming house not facing charges

We still don’t know why the city’s prosecutor is not pursuing charges against the owner of an illegal rooming house that was the site of a fatal fire in 2010, but Councillor Kerry Jang is offering hope… it won’t happen again.

“I would ask our staff to look at any other legal option we can to bring this landlord to account.”

Jang adds the city can’t interfere with the prosecutor’s decision to take no further action against the owner of 2862 Pandora Street…. Choi Leong.

“The prosecutor is independent and the prosecutor has determined that the evidence didn’t meet the charge standard –didn’t feel that there was enough evidence to charge and I certainly have a lot of questions about that.”

A new home is currently being built at the site of the fire that killed Garland McKay, Dwayne Rasmussen and Stephen Yellowquill.
