Party leaders playing it cool over Thursday’s byelection

The leaders of both the BC Liberals and the NDP are trying to lower expectations about Thursday’s byelections.

Voters head to the polls in Port Moody-Coquitlam and Chilliwack-Hope Thursday.

Premier Christy Clark will make no predictions even though her party held both ridings until Iain Black and Barry Penner resigned, “Well, you know, you never want to pre-judge an election; Governments don’t tend to win these byelections. As you know, we haven’t won one in 30 years, except for the one I won.”

NDP leader Adrian Dix says it’s up to voters to decide, “I’m very respectful of that. I think that we have to do our best, which is hopefully to raise up the debate a little bit, and that’s what I’m trying to do, a little bit.”

The BC Conservatives are also in the mix with Chilliwack in particular, a legitimate three way race.
