Pedestrian seriously injured in Port Moody

A 20-year old man is in intensive care at Royal Columbian Hospital after being hit by a pick-up truck yesterday afternoon in Port Moody.

It happened just before 5:00 p.m. on Guildford Way near Falcon Drive.

Coquitlam RCMP Staff Sgt. Mark McCutcheon says it could’ve been a hit-and-run… had it not been for an off-duty mountie,  “The officer didn’t actually see the accident, but came upon it just moments after it happened.  He managed to grab the passenger that was trying to get out and noticed the driver was still at the wheel and made sure he stayed at the scene there.  The passenger got out and the driver was the next one to try and get out and leave.”

McCutcheon says the driver may have been impaired.

A number of charges are being considered.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to call RCMP Traffic Services at 604-945-1550.
