Pickton Prosecutor on lost file

The prosecutor who dropped an attempted murder charge against Robert Pickton  four years before the serial killer was finally caught has now told the Missing Women Inquiry she doesn’t know why her file on the 1997 case no longer exists.

Under cross-examination by a lawyer for the families of 25 victims, Randi Connor quickly agreed the file should have been archived for at least 75 years.

“Absolutely, that file should not have been destroyed. Can you tell me why that file was destroyed and when? I agree with you totally that file should not have been destroyed, but in terms of the mechanics and the documents that explain how that happened, I’m not the best person to give that evidence.”

A lawyer for the criminal justice branch has now confirmed the file was contained in more than 70 boxes of documents destroyed in 2000.
